The Bottom Line
This indifferent conversion unsuccessfully mixes the zombie shooting elements of House of the Dead with the third person approach of Dynamite Cop. Unfortunately the inspired concept is wasted by it's dull and monotonous gameplay, resulting in a disappointing game. While the graphics are great and the game is fun, the replay value is nearly nil, since once you’ve gone through the game you've pretty much seen everything it has to offer. Recommended for absolute die-hard fans of arcade style games only.

A Closer Look
This spin-off of House of the Dead is fairly similar in concept, except for one thing: Instead of shooting zombies first person with a light gun, the action takes place in third person, ala Dynamite Cop, making this a slightly different game that melds two styles, somewhat successfully. It’s undead-killing heritage is quickly evident and there’s a level called "House of the Dead" which recreates part of the first game faithfully, though from the third person perspective. Not bad for players who missed the limited-run Saturn edition. The atmosphere is fairly similar and the plot is an off-shoot of that game, taking place in parallel to the events between the first and second HOTD.

As yet another Naomi-to-Dreamcast conversion this faithfully reproduces the visuals of the arcade title. The gameplay is nearly self-explanatory. You control one of three agents who’ve been dispatched to a city over-run with Zombies. The player has to kill all of the Zombies in each level. They usually attack in groups. It pretty simple, though most zombies take multiple hits to kill. Scattered there are the usual power-ups in the game -- these include bullets and other weapons like machine guns and flame throwers. Additionally, players can collect food in the original mode. The coolest weapon in Zombie Revenge is the drill, which gruesomely destroys zombies. Other than that there are antidotes which are quite useful after your character has been poisoned. The action is straightforward and the game unfolds in a linear fashion, with very few hidden areas and no significant detours. There are only 8 levels in the game, each of which is fairly short.
